![]() ![]() Writing, re-writing and editing The Lord of the Rings was not easy work for Tolkien, and it was a process that took him over a decade to complete. It was when Tolkien was pestered by his fans and publishers that he decided to make The Hobbit to be part of his Middle-earth legendarium, and set writing The Lord of the Rings to be it's sequel. The Hobbit originally wasn't conceived by J.R.R.Tolkien to part of the Middle-earth legendarium as he intended the book to a children's story, and never as the beginning of an epic tale. ![]() The Lord of the Rings at first was to be a sequel to The Silmarillion.The reason for this was that Tolkien, at the time, was working on his Middle-earth legendarium and what was going to be the First Age of his fictional world. ![]()
